I was invited to Anchor Spa a few days ago and took my friend Chinn along with me. Anchor Spa is a restaurant in New Haven that closed its doors in January 2015, but has recently been re-opened by Karl Franz Williams, a Yale alumnus.
They offer tapas style plates, with their menu being divided into “eastern hemisphere” and “western hemisphere” categories. We had the grilled octopus (my first time eating octopus), pan-seared scallops, clam flatbread, mussels, braised bison tacos and for desert their amazing beignets with white chocolate and blueberry sauce. Everything we order tasted fresh and was well seasoned. I think I have a new found love for grilled octopus now!
The drinks on their menu represent popular cities such as New Orleans (Louisiana), Piraeus (Greece), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and of course New Haven. I ordered the Rio de Janerio and Chinn had the New Haven. Both drinks were made very well.
Overall, my experience at Anchor Spa was great! The food was good (most importantly), the staff was very nice and I liked the atmosphere and of the restaurant. I’ll definitely be adding Anchor Spa to my list of places to eat when i’m in the New Haven area.
Anchor Spa is located at 272 College Street in New Haven and to learn more about the restaurant you can visit them here or contact them at 203-821-7065.
