Founder of BeauBelle Africa, BOLANLE WILLIAM-OLLEY, shares her experience as an entrepreneur
My name is Bolanle Williams-Olley and i’m originally from Delta State, Nigeria. I work as a Senior Project Accountant by day and wear many hats – Wife, Mommy of 2 kids (well one on the way J), Entrepreneur – Bola Krafts (crochet and knit wear for kids) and BeauBelle Africa (African infused, Kids approved children’ clothing line), DIY lover by day and night.
The inspiration behind Beau Belle Africa…
BeauBelle Africa was inspired by simply wanting to have ready-made Ankara/African Print clothes for Children. I felt Adults were/are well catered to and there was a void for children. Also, having my daughter last year was a big push for me because I pictured seeing her in cute clothes made from vibrant African prints. The idea for BeauBelle Africa was birthed April 2014, and a full year after May 8th, 2015 BeauBelle Africa’s site went live and ready for people to shop.
When starting a company, one thing I would tell those hoping to start a business is to…
Make sure you have a vision, drive and passion about the venture you is about to go into. As I mentioned in the earlier question, it took about a year to put everything together. I could have very well given up or been discouraged since we are a generation of things happening right now, but sometimes good ideas might take some time to come to life.
The best business advice I’ve received…
So far the best advice I have received (I’m sure more will come) is to not be discouraged when things don’t go according to how you envisioned, as long as you’ve got your dream and goals you want to achieve just keep working at it.
A book that has changed my life…
Make it Happen by Lara Casey – This book has helped shape how I think about my life goals and how to allow God lead me into the right paths meant for me. I recommend this book to people who need to make things happen in their lives and let go of insecurities that may be holding them back.
A valuable lesson I’ve learned as an entrepreneur….
Keep pressing on, Habakkuk 2 v 3 is how I live out as an entrepreneur and in life really – But these things I plan won’t happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, do not despair, for these things will surely come to pass. Just be patient! They will not be overdue a single day! I expect the goals and dreams God has put in my heart will surely manifest.
Next for Beau Belle…..
Short/long term dream (time is of no issue to God) would be to see BeauBelle Africa in major stores across the States. In the meantime, while that is being worked out, I hope to see more Children in their BeauBelle Africa clothes.
