There’s always going to be an event or party that will lead you to wear heels of some sort. There’s nothing worse than planning an amazing outfit for a night out, only to be seated in less than an hour because your feet are in unbearable pain.
So for today’s post, I’m sharing a mini Q & A I did with Dr. Emily Splichal, a podiatrist based in New York, sharing tips on how to care for your feet and keep them feeling better after a day or night in heels.
What are some techniques for women to rejuvenate their feet after a long day in heels?
One of the best tips for recovering the feet is to roll them on a golf ball or lacrosse ball. I recommend that my patients release their feet 5 minutes in the morning and 5 minutes in the evening every day. There are 10 muscles in the bottom of the feet that undergo stress when in high heels and during dynamic movement.
The ARM & HAMMER™ Foot Care Moisturizer + Gentle Exfoliators can be used as a part of a daily foot care routine and is a great way to keep heels and calluses sof t. In cases of drier skin I often recommend that my patients combine the ARM &HAMMER™ Foot Care Moisturizer + Gentle Exfoliators with a occlusion such as saran wrap or silicone heel wraps.
What are things we can do to care for our feet on a daily basis?
- Hydrate the skin and exfoliate any dry skin or calluses
- Strengthen the feet through barefoot exercises
- Roll the feet on a golf ball or lacrosse ball
- Take a break by removing your heels throughout the day
- Stretch your feet after removing your heels
- Pointing your toes down
- Pulling your toes up with a strap to get the Achilles’ tendon and the calf muscles
- Move feet and toes side to side to get to the instep and the outside of the foot
I hope you found these tips helpful. Are there any tricks you do to soothe your feet? Let me know in the comments below!
