5 WAYS TO DRESS FOR TRANSITIONAL WEATHER

The weather in the northeast takes a while to fully transition into the next season. Most times we find that it’s still freezing in the Spring, even into April and early May. We even have weeks where it’ll be in the mid 50 degrees and then one of those days it’ll be in the high 70’s. I’m sure most of you can relate to the inconsistent weather, so i’m sharing a few tips I’ve used to help me get by until the weather becomes consistent!

  1. Layers – When in doubt, ALWAYS wear layers! I’m even talking about wearing a camisole first, then begin to wear long sleeve or short sleeve tops under a dress sweater or vest. Layering your tops and adding a denim jacket, blazer or cardigan before your jacket can also help you be prepared incase the weather stays cold or decides to warm up. You can easily remove it and put it back on if the weather begins to drop again.
  2. Accessorize – Accessories are your best friend! Don’t forget about the wonderful world of scarves! With so many thicknesses and sizes available, an oversized scarf or a simple neck scarf can be the piece that helps you transition through the day with ease. You also have options of a duster vest, hats or even stockings. I consider them all part of the accessorizing process.
  3. Mix & Match – Consider pairing opposites, such as an oversized sweater with shorts or leggings. You can even wear a dress with ankle boots and a turtleneck. You might want to wear a cardigan all day and decide to tuck it into your pants or skirt for a fun fashion statement. Don’t be afraid to mix pieces that contrast in texture, length and size.
  4. Stay Ready – I’m a fan of the saying “Stay ready, so you don’t have to get ready!” You should always keep an extra light jacket or cardigan in your car or office so you can be ready to layer up if it gets cold. I also never leave the house without an umbrella and keep one in my car in case it rains. It would also be a good idea to carry an oversized scarf, shawl or poncho to assist as the weather changes.
  5. Outerwear Counts – You should consider a jacket or coat that can handle most weather conditions. My go to when transitioning into spring or fall is a trench coat or a camel coat. They both keep me warm and are easy to layer clothes under if I need to. Think bout the material of your coat and the lining as well. I’ve seen nice denim jackets and leather jackets that have wool or fur lining to keep you comfortable despite the weather.

Are there any tips that you use to stay comfortable as the weather changes? Let me know.
