3 WAYS TO FIND A HOBBY

As most of you just know I design jewelry and do hair in my spare time. Both activities started out as hobbies when I was younger and they just stuck with me. Even though I get paid for my hobbies now, I would still do them even if I didn’t. In fact, I think that’s a true test of a hobby, something you would do and still enjoy whether or not you got paid for it. I think it’s healthy for everyone to have a hobby they truly enjoy because it can be a good way to de-stress, keep you well rounded and a great way to practice self-care. I know not everyone has a hobby or maybe you might want re-discover a new hobby, so this post is for you! Here 3 ways you can start finding a hobby you truly love!

  1. Think About the Past – I would take time to reflect on past activities that you enjoyed when you were younger. Go back to your childhood and school days in elementary, middle, high school or college. You can even ask close friends and family members about your childhood activities if that time seems to be a blur! There could be an activity or two that you started and stopped for whatever reasons and it might be time to try them again.
  2. Ask Questions – It never hurts to ask questions! Whether it’s a friend, co-worker or total stranger, ask questions about their hobbies and why they enjoy it! You’ll be surprised to learn how other people found or stumbled across their current hobby and how their story can impact your journey of finding or re-discovering a new hobby. You should also ask others about hobby ideas or pick their brain on suggestions. As they say, their no such thing as a silly question.
  3. Try New Things – If nothing from your past pops out to you, then start trying new activities. A few resources you can use are sites like Eventbrite and MeetUp. You can also try visiting your local community college to see a list of classes and activities happening in your community. If you aren’t the type of person who likes to do things solo, then invite a friend and make it an event. At the end of the day you never know what new activity you will like until you try it!

I think everyone should have a hobby. Do you have one? How did you find it? Let me know in the comments.
