In this chaotic world, it’s important to conduct background check on every individual before leaping into any relations (business or personal). The background check does not have to be crazy expensive either. If you feel overwhelmed with the idea of starting to process background checks, here are a few basic and affordable background screenings you should consider starting with:
Social Security Number Verification: Verification of SSN is vital for one reason. It reveals the identity of the SSN holder. Important information such as name(s) and addresses are revealed. Additional data that may be delivered are age, employment, date of birth and many more. Remember that a person can never receive a social security card before birth. People often use fake SSN to hide their identity or elude the IRS.
Education Verification: Did you hear about a person who stated on his resume that he had attained a MSc from a famous college? Well, when the college was contacted, it was discovered that the man had taken one course at the college about 3 years ago. Verification of education is very inexpensive depending on the institutions. Some institutions had firmed out education verification to private companies for a fee.
Criminal Record Check: Depending on the State to search, criminal record check can be conducted on 4 levels namely (1) Statewide (2) County (3)National (4) Federal. Statewide criminal record search is readily available in some states. Some states have limited the availability of criminal records to county courts only. The national criminal records have more coverage. But the index does not cover every state in the union nor does it cover every county in the union. The federal records cover federal offenses and are very detailed.
Credit Report: Credit report sheds light on the individual financial history. There are 3 credit bureaus responsible for maintaining and monitoring every credit history. There are Equifax, Trans Union and Experian. For the law governing credit report, visit this link:

Employment Verification: An individual can populate a resume to become more marketable especially in this current economic fiasco. The main aim of conducting employment check is to confirm each employment history hiring date, job responsibility and termination date (on previous employment). Like the education verification, many companies have contracted employment verification responsibilities to private firms for a fee. Other records that one may use to conduct background check, but not mention in this article, are driving record, sex offender search, civil record, drug testing, and many more.
